LIBBY BARNETT, MSW
Reiki Master Teacher and Reiki Master of Masters
Libby Barnett, MSW, is a gifted, knowledgeable teacher of the traditional Usui System of Reiki healing. She is the longest practicing Reiki Master Teacher on the East Coast. Libby has taught over 14,000 people nationwide, including health care professionals at many hospitals.
Libby’s journey in Reiki began in 1979 under the tutelage of John Harvey Gray, a direct disciple of Reiki Grandmaster Hawayo Takata. Grounded in the oral tradition of Reiki, she upholds the lineage with reverence and passion, a connection that led her to explore Reiki’s roots in Kyoto, Japan, in 1999. There, she immersed herself in the teachings of Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder, drawing inspiration from sacred sites like Mount Kurama.
Driven by a desire to promote peace and mindful living, Libby offers comprehensive Reiki training, catering to students at all levels. Her background in social work, coupled with decades of Reiki practice, forms the foundation of her teaching philosophy. Beyond the classroom, Libby’s impact extends into healthcare settings, where she pioneers Reiki programs aimed at supporting patients and caregivers, fostering healing and well-being in partnership with institutions like Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital as well as Harvard, Tufts, and Brown medical schools and to over 100 students at Yale University School of Nursing.
Libby is co-author of the best-selling book, Reiki Energy Medicine: Bringing Healing Touch into Home, Hospitals, and Hospice, with over 80,000 copies sold in seven languages. Her book addresses the use of Reiki in the hospital, hospice and psychotherapeutic setting, supporting the current trend toward integrating complementary therapies with conventional medicine.
