Reiki is an ancient, gentle, hands-on, energy healing therapy. The Japanese word Reiki (pronounced ray-key) describes a system for tapping into universal life force, sometimes referred to as chi or Qi (pronounced chee) the energy that creates and sustains all life. Infinite and unlimited, chi is the essence that gives vitality to form. Every living thing is inspirited by this energy; at death, it departs the physical body.

While hands-on-healing, in its many different forms in different cultures, is thousands of years old, this particular form was rediscovered in the 1850's in Kyoto, Japan, by a Japanese Christian monk, Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui with his colleague, Dr. Hayashi, developed the Reiki protocol, which Mrs. Takata brought to the United States in 1973.
Reiki is the only healing modality with an attunement process. This sacred ceremony is based on the precise formula Dr. Usui rediscovered in ancient Sanskrit texts. The Reiki Attunement ceremony is the foundation of Reiki and makes Reiki unique. This ancient ritual fine-tunes and balances the student's energy system, empowering him to be a conduit for channeling universal life energy. Prior to the attunement you generally connect with the universal life force in a random, inconsistent way. Non-invasive and with no side effects, Reiki is safe to use in any situation. There are no situations where Reiki is contraindicated.
